Resources
Laboratory: Over 2,270 ft2 of laboratory space on the first and second floors of the renovated Piedmont Triad Clinical Research Center Building (PTCRC) in the Piedmont Triad Research Park.
Animals: The PTCRC of Wake Forest School of Medicine maintains a centralized Animal Resource Facility in the basement (5,700 ft2). It includes 4 large animal holding rooms, 2 cubicle rooms with a total of 15 separate cubicles, an animal surgery support area, a necropsy area, a cage wash area, and support space for offices and supply storage. The Facility confirms to the American Association for the Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care Standards.
Computer: IBM compatible (Pentium 4 and above) computers are available in the PI’s laboratory and office with programs for word processing, statistics, and graphics. The laboratory is equipped with IBM compatible slave computers for the purpose of data collection, analysis, inventory and accounting.
Major Equipment: The laboratory is
equipped with a tissue culture incubator (Forma, SteriCult 2000), tissue culture
hood (Bio-Guard-Baker), refrigerator/freezer, fume hood, precision water bath,
pH meters, fraction collectors, AD Analytical Balance, IEC Micro-MB Microfuge,
two Stanford Instruments Model 5100 lock-in amplifiers, freezing point osmometer
(Advanced Instruments), three BioRad AA C 300 Power Supplies for gel
electrophoresis, BioRad MyCycler Thermal Cycler for rt-PCR, HPLC’s, mass
spectrophotometer and several Beckman Scintillation Counters. Shared equipment
rooms at the PTCRC Building include a histology room with a freezing microtome,
tissue processing & Nikon Labaphot microscope equipped for epifluorescence, and
imaging system. Available on a shared basis are also a -70°C
freezer (Revco); Table-top centrifuges (Hermle Z-360, Sorvall Model 1272
(Pharmacia). A Molecular Core Facility is available on the 1st floor
of the PTCRC (room 177). A partial list of equipment contained in this facility
includes: Stratagen UV Stratalinker 1800; Fuji Film BAS 1500 Image Analysis and
peripherals; Ambis 400 Image Acquisition and Analysis system; two Perkin Elmer
Cetus DNA Thermal Cyclers 480; Oligo 5.0, oligomer design software.
